Puppies Behind Bars

I ran across this organization today and it really touched me. I can't put into words the joy and love my sweet Gussy has given me over the years. So when I see others (who probably need more friendship and compassion than myself) benefiting from those nutty little fur balls... it's make my heart pitter pat.

In short; it's a prison program where puppies are trained for elderly guidance, bomb or drug sniffing and/or leading the blind. Although the puppies are the ones in actual training, their teachers are benefiting even more. Check it out if you get a chance. Here's the site.

Tubin'

This weekend James and I are heading south to float the Guadalupe with some friends. It's only 105 degrees outside and the river is probably dry, so what better time to go?!
It should be interesting, considering one of our friends is a New Yorker and his idea of a river is the Hudson and fresh air comes only from vents.
I told him not to worry, James is a professional at keeping the hill-billies away.
~Should be fun~

Calling All Volunteers. That means YOU!

Can you read? If your answer is yes, then you can help. If your answer is no, then you are lying.

As many of you know I am part of a web-based volunteer group called In2Books.com.

What is In2Books you ask? Well, in short, In2Books pairs 3rd-5th graders from all over the US with willing literate adults to become pen-pals. Through out the school year you read up to five books and discuss via email your thoughts, opinions and ideas with each other. It's a great way to get kids to develop and expound their writing and communication skills. And for most kids it's the first time to discuss topics with an adult other than their teacher or relatives.

It's almost August (yikes) and the new school year will be starting up soon. So if you've got a few extra hours this year and don't mind reading on a 4th grade level, sign-up; they could definitely use as many volunteers as possible.

It's easy as pie to sign-up, although a background check is required. So for all my friends that are creeps... you might want to sit this one out.

The Fleitmans go GREEN!!!

Kudos to my mom and dad for their latest efforts to become more in tune with the planet! To add to the new tankless water heater, the energy star washer and dryer (which is soooo cool by the way. I think it's neat enough to actually make me want to do laundry.... well, maybe not); they asked for the town to bring back the recycling center... and viola!!, it's back in business. Yesterday, Mom was even heading to Wal-Mart to get some bins to organize the recycling.

Great job Mom and Dad! Even though you've been yelling at me to save electricity for years... you've moved passed the light switch.

Next on the list... The rain water barrel by Rick.

Why We Love the South

During our drive from Birmingham to Pensacola we were reminded why we should go to church.
